The
largest and most impressive event on the Mineral Water Trail Greenway
was the reconstruction of the Monks' Bath and the surrounding Pilgrimage
garden. The Monks' Bath and the surrounding pilgrimage garden were
built based on the principles of organic landscape design through
a traditional workcamp, in August 2006. The success of the initiative
was possible thanks to the fact that REPF succeeded to establish
a large partnership by involving several partner organizations (Ars
Topia Foundation, Ciuc County Tourism and Nature Protection Association),
the Town Hall, the Franciscan Monastery, the local community and
more than 150 volunteers (locals and from abroad). These volunteers
were students, builders and families, who arrived from the different
parts of the Carpathian basin with the goal of participating in
this traditional work camp.
The
reconstructed Monks' Bath is the 7th rehabilitated traditional mineral
water bath along the ”Mineral Water Trail” greenway over the last
five years. The efforts of the involved organizations and volunteers
were doubled by the commitment and the contribution of the local
community. More than 350 families have supported in some way the
initiative by hosting the foreign volunteers, by work or through
their donations (funds, materials, tools and food). At the same
time, over 30 local small and medium-size companies contributed
through donations (funds and materials). The main elements of this
new attraction of the Mineral Water Trail are the bathing building,
which has a tulip shape, a sun-dial, a moon-dial, a few willow constructions,
board-walks and billboards. All these were made using natural materials
such as willow, wood, rocks etc. The success of the new Monks' Bath
is proven by the large number of people who are visiting it each
day..
